Islamic Tracker — Privacy Policy

Last Updated: August 9, 2026

1. Introduction

Islamic Tracker ("the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains our practices concerning data collection, use, and protection when you use our mobile application.

This policy applies solely to the Islamic Tracker mobile application. It does NOT apply to any third-party services linked from or integrated with the App.

2. What Data We Collect

Islamic Tracker is designed to work primarily offline with all personal religious activity stored locally on your device (and, as of the latest version, encrypted at rest — see section 4.4). The only data sent to our service provider (Google Firebase) is a small set of anonymous usage events described in section 2.5.

2.1 Location Data

What we collect:

Why: To calculate accurate prayer times. We do NOT transmit your location data to external servers. All prayer-time and Qibla calculations are performed locally on your device.

User Control: You can grant or deny location permission through your device's settings. Prayer time calculations will use a default location if permission is denied.

2.2 Personal Activity Data

All personal activity data is stored exclusively on your device using the Hive local database, encrypted with AES-256 (see section 4.4). This data is NOT uploaded to any cloud server.

2.3 Notification Preferences

We store your notification settings (enabled/disabled, preferred times, daily Hadith schedule, selected azan/reminder sounds) locally on your device. NOT shared with third parties.

2.4 Device Information

The Firebase App Instance ID and FCM token fall under the "Device or other IDs" category. We do NOT collect IMEI, MAC address, phone number, email address, or any persistent hardware identifier. The Android Advertising ID is not used by the app and is stripped from the build; if your device transmits it to Firebase Analytics by default, you can opt out from Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.

2.5 Analytics

The app uses Firebase Analytics (Google) to measure how Islamic Tracker is being used and how it grows. The following events are sent to Firebase:

No prayer content, zikr counts, Quran progress, GPS coordinates, personal text, or message content is ever included in any analytics event. Data is processed by Google as our sub-processor under the standard Firebase terms.

Crash reporting: the app does NOT include Firebase Crashlytics or any other third-party crash-reporting SDK.

2.6 Marketing & Install Attribution

When you tap an Invite friends button, the Google Play link we share is tagged with utm_source=app_share, utm_medium=<whatsapp|general>, and utm_campaign=3friends. If a friend installs the app from that link, Google Play's Install Referrer automatically forwards those tags to Firebase Analytics, so we can measure how many new installs come from existing users sharing the app. No personal identifier of the sender is included.

3. How We Use Your Data

  1. Local computation: Calculate prayer times, Qibla direction, and Islamic calendar conversions.
  2. Notifications: Deliver scheduled azan, pre-azan and post-azan reminders, plus the daily Hadith/Quran verse at your chosen time.
  3. Personalisation: Remember your preferences, selected sounds, language, theme, and dashboard layout.
  4. Progress tracking: Save your activity records so you can review history, edit past entries, and view analytics.
  5. Anonymous analytics: Understand which features are used, measure daily/monthly active users, and attribute organic installs to user invites (see 2.5 & 2.6).
  6. Security & integrity: Detect compromised (rooted/jailbroken or tampered) environments on your device to protect the confidentiality of your locally stored data (see 4.4).

We do NOT: sell your data, share personal data with advertisers, build behavioural profiles, run targeted ads, or transmit your prayer/zikr/Quran content to any server.

4. Data Storage & Security

4.1 Local Storage

4.2 Google Firebase Services

The app initialises Firebase Core at startup and uses the following Google services:

The Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and Cloud Storage SDKs are bundled with the app but are not currently used to collect or transmit any personal data. If we activate them in a future release, we will update this policy and request explicit consent where required.

All Firebase traffic is transmitted over HTTPS.

4.3 Security Measures

4.4 On-Device Protection

To keep your personal religious activity private, the latest version of the app adds several on-device safeguards. None of these transmit any additional personal data off your device.

6. Your Rights & Choices

6.1 Access & Edit

6.2 Request Data Deletion

The app provides an in-app deletion path: Settings → About & Share → Request Data Deletion. From there you can:

Uninstalling the app also clears all on-device data. For full details see our Data Deletion page.

6.3 Disable Location / Notifications

6.4 Notification & Background Permissions

To deliver azan and reminder notifications reliably, the app may request:

None of these permissions grant the app access to any new personal data — they only affect when and how reliably the azan can fire.

7. Children's Privacy

Islamic Tracker is NOT specifically intended for children under 13.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does Islamic Tracker sell my data?
A: No. We never sell, trade, or share your personal data with third parties.

Q: Is my prayer / zikr / Quran data sent anywhere?
A: No. All religious activity is stored only on your device, encrypted with AES-256. The only data sent off-device is a small set of anonymous usage events (see Section 2.5).

Q: Is my data encrypted on my device?
A: Yes. The local database is encrypted at rest with AES-256, and the key is held in your device's hardware-backed secure keystore (Android Keystore / iOS Keychain). See Section 4.4.

Q: The app says it checks for rooted/modified devices — is it collecting information about my phone?
A: No personal information. Those checks run entirely on your device using the operating system's own APIs. No device fingerprint or identifier is transmitted; at most an anonymous threat-type label is logged to analytics. See Section 4.4.

Q: Is my location data secure?
A: Yes. GPS coordinates are processed locally and never transmitted to any server.

Q: Can I use the app without granting location permission?
A: Yes. Prayer times will use a default location, which you can change manually in Settings.

Q: How do I delete all my data?
A: Open the app → Settings → About & Share → Request Data Deletion. You can wipe local data on the device, or email a request to also erase any cloud-side analytics records. See our Data Deletion page for step-by-step instructions.

Q: What does Firebase Analytics know about me?
A: A randomly-generated App Instance ID, that you opened the app, your approximate country/language, and a handful of taps such as "Invite friends" or "Rate on Google Play". It does NOT see your prayers, zikr, Quran progress, name, or location.

Q: What happens if I uninstall the app?
A: All locally stored data is deleted immediately. Anonymous analytics events already sent to Firebase remain for up to 14 months unless you email a deletion request.

Q: Does the app track me after I close it?
A: No. The app only runs when you open it, except for scheduled notification alarms and a periodic background job that re-arms tomorrow's prayer alarms.

Q: Is the app free?
A: Yes, Islamic Tracker is completely free. We do not display ads or require payments.

By using Islamic Tracker, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.

If you disagree with any part of this policy, please uninstall the app.
